MENLO PARK, Calif. – Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense program, announced SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory signed a Statement of Support for the National Guard and Reserve July 11 at Kavli Auditorium in front of more than 50 employees and guests.

The Statement of Support, signed by Brian Sherin, Deputy Director for Operations, confirms SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory joins other employers in pledging:

- We fully recognize, honor and comply with the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act.

- We will provide our managers and supervisors with the tools they need to effectively manage employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.

- We appreciate the values, leadership and unique skills service members bring to the workforce and will encourage opportunities to hire Guardsmen, Reservists and Veterans.

- We will continually recognize and support our country’s service members and their families, in peace, in crises and in war.

“More than ever, supportive employers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of our National Guard and Reserve units,” said Craig McKinley, ESGR National Chair. “Guard and Reserve forces make up nearly half of our military and possess many unique skills and mission capabilities not found in the active component. Employers like SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, who support the continued military service of our Guardsmen and Reservists, are absolutely critical to the success of our national defense strategy.”

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory joins a cadre of Fortune 500 companies, state and federal agencies and tens-of-thousands of America’s employers in demonstrating support for our armed forces.

“By signing the Statement of Support, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is sending a clear message to its employees that while they are serving their country, they do not have to worry about their civilian jobs,” McKinley said.

“As part of the U.S. Department of Energy National Laboratory system, SLAC performs science that benefits the nation and humanity. Our people are our most important asset and among our best are veterans and members of the guard and reserve,” said Sherin. “The lab is committed and proud to support what they do for the community and the country."

ESGR seeks to foster a culture where all employers support and value the employment and military service of National Guard and Reserve members. ESGR promotes a cooperative culture of employer support for National Guard and Reserve service by developing mutually beneficial initiatives, recognizing outstanding employer support, increasing awareness of applicable laws and policies, resolving potential conflicts between employers and their service members, and acting as employers’ principal advocate within the Department of Defense.
