UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Pennsylvania Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense office, announced that North Central Area ESGR volunteers attended the Pennsylvania Society of Human Resource Members (PA-SHRM) annual conference at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center.  

This was the first in-person meeting of PA-SHRM member company members since the outbreak of the COVID virus.

This year marks the sixth time that ESGR has been invited to participate in the annual fall PA-SHRM conference. Pennsylvania ESGR’s participation was as an exhibitor and the North Central Area team appreciates the opportunity to display ESGR’s mission, support of our nation’s reserve forces, and support provided to employers.  

Participating in the two-day conference was the North Central Area Chair Terry Curran and volunteers Chris Grill and Michele Vollmer.  In addition to providing literature, ESGR team members answered conference attendee questions.  Curran noted that the conference center’s Presidents Hall had a capacity crowd and estimated that there were over 300 corporate PA SHRM members in attendance; the attendees represented large and small companies and non-profit organizations from across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  

ESGR, a Department of Defense office, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States.  ESGR facilitates and promotes a cooperative culture of employer support for National Guard and Reserve service by developing and advocating mutually beneficial initiatives, recognizing outstanding employer support, increasing awareness of applicable laws and policies, resolving potential conflicts between employers and their service members, and acting as the employers’ principal advocate within DoD.  Paramount to ESGR's mission is encouraging employment of Guardsmen and Reservists who bring integrity, global perspective, and proven leadership to the civilian workforce.
