CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. – A 20 year ESGR volunteer recipient James Crawford recently received the James Roche Award for “Spirit of Volunteerism” presented by fellow volunteers Vice Chair Joel Miltenberger and Brian Shaw in what was considered a “surprise attack from his office staff and family” in his private practice law office in Charles Town Aug. 16.

The James M. Roche Spirit of Volunteerism Award is a national level award and the highest award given to a volunteer for superior and sustained service to ESGR over a period of at least 5 years. The award is named after ESGR’s first ED, James M. Roche.  

Crawford’s military career spanned 36 years with the West Virginia Air National Guard, he retired as a Brig. Gen. while serving in command of the 167th Airlift Wing.   His private law practice began in 1981 and is still thriving with offices in West Virginia and Virginia. His ESGR volunteer activity began in 2001. His service since then has included volunteer, ombudsman and he has held an Area Chair position for more than six years.
