HONOLULU – Stan Ortega, Charmain Pardue, and Gabriel Vierra of Bowhead Marine Support Services received the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award June 28 for the extraordinary support they provide to their employee, Sgt. Princess Dunbar.
The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees who have answered their nation’s call to serve. Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.
National Guard and Reserve members bring tremendous skills and capabilities to our workforce, and employer support for their military service is critical to maintaining the strength of our Guard and Reserve units. By valuing the military service of their Guard and Reserve employees, employers are directly supporting the readiness and retention of our all-volunteer force, and our national defense.
Sgt. Dunbar said, “Mr. Ortega understands the meaning of answering the call to duty. Being a veteran himself, he does not hesitate to let me know I am supported. It makes a big difference being able to serve on orders and not worry about your civilian job.”
Dunbar stated that every time she is called on military orders Pardue, “takes my duties as her own without fail. I am able to focus on my military duties without fear or stress of my civilian ones. Being a veteran herself, Ms. Pardue understands what is needed of me and makes it known that everything will be taken care of while I am gone.”
When talking about Vierra, Pardue mentioned, “Mr. Vierra understands the call to service very well, and does not hesitate to let me know it is no problem when I present orders, even when on short notice. Having an employer supportive of my military service makes the biggest difference, especially in a Soldier’s performance and overall health.”
At the end of the presentation Vierra signed the ESGR Statement of Support.
