ESGR in the News

SPOKANE, Wash. – Bryan Duncan, area manager at Enterprise Holding, was presented with a Patriot Award, by Nancy Reid Isaak and Keen Isaak, east area volunteers with the Washington Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, in recognition of his extraordinary support of his employee serving in the Washington Army National Guard.

Duncan was nominated by Washington Army National Guardsman Capt. Miranda Moen, a mangement trainee at Enterprise Holding.  "Throughout my time at Enterprise, Bryan has been incredibly understanding and flexible when my call to duty has come,” said Moen.  “Every time I have had to leave for military training (Annual Training, CO VID activation, pre-deployment training and deployment, as well as regular Inactive Duty for Training), I am welcomed back with smiles and open arms.”

“The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said Nancy Reid Isaak. “Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”

“National Guard and Reserve members bring tremendous skills and capabilities to our workforce, and employer support for their military service is critical to maintaining the strength of our Guard and Reserve units,” said Ken Isaak. “By valuing the military service of their Guard and Reserve employees, employers are directly supporting the readiness and retention of our All-Volunteer Force, and our national defense.”

“Bryan has made me feel that I am an equally valuable member of the team and am no different than any employee who does not periodically have to leave,” explained Moen. “Bryan has mentioned on multiple occasions how my experience as a leader in the military is an asset to the team I am on. It feels good to have such unique experiences be seen as valuable. All higher-level management should exhibit the qualities that Bryan does; it would relieve the worries and fears of many Reservists and Guardsmen.”

At the presentation Duncan also signed an ESGR Statement of Support.  The Statement of Support confirms Enterprise Holding joins other employers in pledging:

  • We fully recognize, honor and comply with the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act (USERRA).
  • We will provide our managers and supervisors with the tools they need to effectively manage employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.
  • We appreciate the values, leadership and unique skills service members bring to the workforce and will encourage opportunities to hire Guardsmen, Reservists and Veterans.
  • We will continually recognize and support our country’s service members and their families, in peace, in crises and in war.

“Enterprise Holding joins a cadre of Fortune 500 companies, state and federal, agencies and thousands of America’s employers in demonstrating support for our armed forces,” added Nancy Reed Isaak.  “By signing the Statement of Support, Enterprise Holding is sending a clear message to its employees that while they are serving their country, they do not have to worry about their civilian jobs.”

ESGR is a Department of Defense program that develops and promotes supportive work environments for service members in the National Guard and Reserve through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities that increase awareness of applicable laws. ESGR also provides assistance in resolving conflicts between Service members and their employers. This year, ESGR celebrates 50 years of excellence in support of the Reserve Components and their civilian employers. For more information about ESGR outreach programs or volunteer opportunities, call (800) 336-4590 or visit www.ESGR.mil/WA.
