BYRAM, Miss. – The Above and Beyond Award was presented to the Byram Police Department to recognize the Department for going above and beyond the legal requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act by providing their Guard and Reserve employees additional, non-mandated benefits and outstanding support.
The award was presented during a recent Byram Mayor and Board of Alderman Meeting. Presenting this award was Margarett Barnes, Mississippi ESGR Committee. Accepting the award was Police Chief David Errington. Joining Mrs. Barnes in the presentation were Mayor Richard White, Police Sergeant Colin Cooper, and Detective Myles Lowe who is also a First Lieutenant with the 1/204th ADA, Mississippi Army National Guard, located in Forest, Mississippi.
Detective Myles Lowe, who serves as a first lieutenant in the Mississippi Army National Guard, was the nominator of Police Sgt. Colin Cooper for the Patriot Award on which this Above and Beyond Award is based. Cooper not only provided the required provisions of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act but went above and beyond by constantly checking to see if Lowe was in good spirits and sharing a kind word. Cooper also encouraged Lowe to be a better officer in his unit by providing him with relevant reading material.
