BELLEFONTE, Pa. – The Pennsylvania Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense program, announced today that Centre Concrete signed a Statement of Support in recognition of extraordinary support of employees serving in the Pennsylvania’s Guard and Reserve. Pennsylvania ESGR is particularly proud to have employers like Centre Concrete affirm strong and patriotic support of employees serving in our nation’s Reserve forces during ESGR’s 50th Anniversary year.
According to PA ESGR North Central Area Chair William Burkhard, “the Statement of Support” program is the cornerstone of ESGR’s effort to gain and maintain employer support for the Guard and Reserve. The intent of the program is to increase employer support by encouraging employers to act as advocates for employee participation in the military. Supportive employers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the Nation’s Guard and Reserve units. By signing a Statement of Support, the Centre Concrete pledges that their organization is highly supportive of the Pennsylvania National Guard and Reserves. Supportive business leaders and supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”
Centre Concrete joins many Pennsylvania employers that express their support of service members in the Guard and Reserves. Specific points of a Statement of Support pledges that an organization adopts the following beliefs:
Centre Concrete owner Eric Nicholson signed the statement of support on behalf of the company. Accompanying Nicholson at the document signing was the company’s EHS Director Matthew Whitman and Pennsylvania Army National Guard member Sgt. Tasha Williams who serves in the 542nd Quartermaster Company located in Danville, PA. Nicholson mentioned that Williams is an outstanding employee who brings many exceptional military skills to the workforce; he said, “he’d hire many more members of the Reserve Forces it they were all as dedicated and hard working as Williams.”
"Today, supportive employers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units,” said Burkhard. “I am asking all North Central Area Pennsylvania employers to take a look at their current human resources policies to incorporate policies supportive of Guard and Reserve employees.” Many Pennsylvania employers provide support above and beyond their legal requirements by law by offering pay-differential to offset the loss of wages, and extension of health care benefits, which complement coverage provided by the military when their employees mobilize.”

Burkhard added: “By signing the Statement of Support, the Centre Concrete is sending a clear message to its employees that while they are serving their country, they do not have to worry about their civilian jobs.”
