KINGSHILL, U.S. Virgin Islands – The Virgin Islands Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve recognizes the Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center as a 2022 Freedom Award semi-finalist during the committee's St. Croix Briefing with the Boss, recently.
Juan F. Luis Hospital was nominated by Sgt. Cornelius JnBaptiste who is assigned to the Virgin Islands Army National Guard, 661st MP Detachment, Traffic Section, and holds the position of Team Leader. In his civilian position, JnBaptiste works as the Hemodialysis Unit, Biomed Technician.
He nominated his civilian employer because they support the serving guard or reserve members that they employ.
“My employer is very supportive of service members working within the ranks and file of the institution,” stated JnBaptiste. “This CEO, goes over and beyond the norm to reach out to me, while I am away serving on deployments and other military duties. I am forever grateful for the love and support, and for this, I take this opportunity to extend heartfelt gratitude and thanks.”
JnBaptiste also recognized the hospital for employing guard members.
“JFLH is supportive of employing serving guard or reserve members,” stated JnBaptiste. “Numerous other guard members are hired and employed throughout the ranks of the institution.”
Virgin Islands State Chair Stanley Jones proudly recommended the hospital for the Freedom Award. This is JFLHMC's third nomination.
“The hospital has been receptive and has received onsite training for senior leadership and managers,” said Jones. “When service members are on military duty, supervisors and coworkers kept in constant contact. Based on the service members' military knowledge, skills, and abilities gained while on military duty have allowed the members to continue to advance at the hospital.”
Terry Lynch, RN, MSN Acting Chief of Human Resources for JFLHMC accepted the award presented at the St. Croix Briefing with the Boss held May 5, 2022, at Gertrude’s Restaurant.
“We have several guard members, in addition to Mr. JnBaptiste, that have nominated us, and they are exemplary employees,” said Lynch. “We continue to actually look for military experienced employees to join our team.”
JFLHMC was not a recipient of the 2022 Freedom Award. However, JFLHMC, along with Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority, and the Law Offices of Andrew Simpson are three of the 2,777 nominations submitted by guardsmen and reservist nationwide.
