CHARLESTON, W.Va. – During an official ceremony, West Virginia Governor Jim Justice signed the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve’s (ESGR) Statement of Support, a formal commitment to support the Guard and Reserve in their careers during and after their service.

Upon his signing of the Statement of Support his Cabinet Secretaries signed for each of their departments: Department of Administration, Department of Arts, Culture and History, Department of Commerce, Department of Economic Development, Department of Environmental Protection, Department of Health and Human Resources, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Revenue, Bureau of Senior Services, Department of Tourism, Department of Transportation, and Department of Veterans Assistance.

ESGR State Chair John Miller who was present at the ceremony stated: “When we have not only the commitment of the governor but his Cabinet Secretaries as well, we feel that the outreach can be unlimiting and we are able to fulfill our mission to the service members and employers in understanding the commitment of USERRA with its rules and responsibilities.”

The ESGR is a Department of Defense program that develops and promotes supportive work environments for service members in the National Guard and Reserve through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities that increase awareness of applicable laws.  Through the Statement of Support Program, ESGR aims to increase employer support by encouraging employers to act as advocates for employee participation in the military.
