BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Pennsylvania Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense program, announced that Metropolitan Trucking recently received a Patriot Award in recognition of extraordinary support of employees serving in the Pennsylvania Guard and Reserve.

Metropolitan Trucking’s, Brian Lechak was nominated for the Patriot Award by Staff Sgt. Joshua Pabellon, of Pennsylvania’s Army National Guard’s Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 109th Infantry Regiment located in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania.  Pabellon’s nomination of Lechak alluded to the support he, his family, and all military personnel receive; he is also extremely flexible and accommodating of Pabellon’s military service even when he receives last minute orders of 48 hours or less; every effort is made to get him home in a timely manner when driving requirements take him out of state.

Chris Grill, Pennsylvania Area ESGR Volunteer and Ombudsman, presented the Patriot Award to Lechak.  In presenting the award, Grill commented: “It’s critical and an honor to recognize and pay tribute to those employers that hire and support our Guard and Reserve forces.  It would be difficult for those in the uniformed services to perform their mission without employer support.”  Grill added: “Brian was truly honored and commented that he never viewed his support for Josh as extraordinary.  He felt that this was his way to support our country and make sure those that served were supported at home and in their work.”

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States. ESGR facilitates and promotes a cooperative culture of employer support for National Guard and Reserve service by developing and advocating mutually beneficial initiatives, recognizing outstanding employer support, increasing awareness of applicable laws and policies, resolving potential conflicts between employers and their service members, and acting as the employers’ principal advocate within DoD. Paramount to ESGR's mission is encouraging employment of Guardsmen and Reservists who bring integrity, global perspective and proven leadership to the civilian workforce.
