MONROEVILLE, Pa. – Pennsylvania Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense program, is announcing that Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI) engineering manager Mario Dias recently received a Patriot Award in recognition of extraordinary support of employees serving in the Pennsylvania Guard and Reserve. BPMI is a project engineering that supports the Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program.
Dias was nominated for the Patriot Awards by Cmdr. Daniel Estes who is a Reservist in the Navy Reserve Submarine Group EIGHT Detachment Pittsburgh in Coraopolis, Pa. Estes nominated Dias for the award on behalf of himself and Capt. Nathaniel Sapp who is an Officer Candidate School Instructor at West Virginia’s National Guard 197th Regional Training Institute at Camp Dawson, in Preston County, W.Va. Both Estes and Sapp presented the Patriot Award to Dias.
In nominating Dias, Estes stated: “BPMI is supportive of our Guard and Reserve employees… (and) is a veteran-friendly organization. BPMI provides high quality service to the US Navy.” Estes further commented: “Having two Guard and Reserve members under one manager is unusual and Mario has remained supportive of both of us, even at times when our absences have accidentally coincided. It’s comforting to know that our immediate manager appreciates our service and is willing to manage the burden when 25% of his workforce is out on military training.”
ESGR, a Department of Defense program, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States. ESGR facilitates and promotes a cooperative culture of employer support for National Guard and Reserve service by developing and advocating mutually beneficial initiatives, recognizing outstanding employer support, increasing awareness of applicable laws and policies, resolving potential conflicts between employers and their service members, and acting as the employers’ principal advocate within DoD. Paramount to ESGR's mission is encouraging employment of Guardsmen and Reservists who bring integrity, global perspective, and proven leadership to the civilian workforce.
