ESGR in the News

PINE GROVE, Pa. – Pennsylvania Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense program, announced that Ace Hardware owner Craig Werner recently received a Patriot Award in recognition of extraordinary support of employees serving in the Pennsylvania Guard and Reserve.

Werner was nominated for the Patriot Awards by 1st Sgt. Nick Modesto, PA Medical Readiness Detachment, of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard that is stationed at Ft. Indiantown Gap.  In nominating Werner, Modesto stated: “Craig Werner was nothing but supportive when I was mobilized for nine months in support of OVID-19 operations and continues to be very supportive of my obligations to the National Guard.  He works with me on my schedule to accommodate days off for annual training and weekday Individual Training Days that would otherwise affect his normal business operations. My co-workers have also been nothing but supportive and worked hard to pick up any slack and cover down in my absence.  Werner Lumber Ace Hardware and Craig Werner have been supportive of my National Guard participation for the past 18 years and I do believe that he deserves recognition for him and his company for allowing me to do what I love.”

Pennsylvania East Central ESGR Area Chair Joseph Gentile, presented the Patriot Award to Werner.  When presented the Patriot Award, Gentile commented: “It’s critical and an honor to recognize employers that hire and support our Guard and Reserve forces.  It would be difficult for those in the uniformed services to perform their mission without employer support.”

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States. ESGR facilitates and promotes a cooperative culture of employer support for National Guard and Reserve service by developing and advocating mutually beneficial initiatives, recognizing outstanding employer support, increasing awareness of applicable laws and policies, resolving potential conflicts between employers and their service members, and acting as the employers’ principal advocate within DoD. Paramount to ESGR's mission is encouraging employment of Guardsmen and Reservists who bring integrity, global perspective and proven leadership to the civilian workforce.
