ESGR in the News

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. – Pennsylvania Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense program, announced that Colonial Electric recently received a Patriot Awards in recognition of extraordinary support of employees serving in the Pennsylvania Guard and Reserve.

Regional Vice President David Burnett was nominated for the Patriot Awards by Staff Sgt. Paul Paluba, of the 1067th Transportation Company of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard that is currently deployed.  In nominating Burnett, Paluba stated: “Colonial Electric went above and beyond in making my deployment a seamless process. I am in sales, so they hired someone to handle my accounts while I am gone… We had discussions for when I return on how I can just jump back in. Their support was a huge relief!”

Wes Craig, Pennsylvania Chair Emeritus and Southeast ESGR Chair, presented the Patriot Award to Burnett.  When presented the Patriot Award, Burnett commented: “Paul is an outstanding sales rep, and a tremendous representative for Colonial Electric. David told me he and several of the office crew were assembling a care package of Philly foods (Tastykakes) and some Philly Eagles and 76ers gear to ship off to Paul in Kuwait!”

Burnette also signed a Statement of Support.  The Statement of Support Program is the cornerstone of ESGR’s effort to gain and maintain employer support for the Guard and Reserve. The intent of the program is to increase employer support by encouraging employers to act as advocates for employee participation in the military. Supportive employers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the Nation’s Guard and Reserve units.

In presenting the award, Craig commented: “It’s critical and an honor to recognize employers that hire and support our Guard and Reserve forces.  It would be difficult for those in the uniformed services to perform their mission without employer support.”

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States. ESGR facilitates and promotes a cooperative culture of employer support for National Guard and Reserve service by developing and advocating mutually beneficial initiatives, recognizing outstanding employer support, increasing awareness of applicable laws and policies, resolving potential conflicts between employers and their service members, and acting as the employers’ principal advocate within DoD. Paramount to ESGR's mission is encouraging employment of Guardsmen and Reservists who bring integrity, global perspective and proven leadership to the civilian workforce.
