KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. – Pennsylvania Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense program, announced that Lockheed Martin recently received a Patriot Awards in recognition of extraordinary support of employees serving in the Pennsylvania Guard and Reserve.

Lockheed Martin’s Jay Mariano was nominated for the Patriot Awards by Chief Petty Officer William G. Jones, U.S. Navy Reserve.  In nominating Mariano, Jones stated: “During a yearlong deployment to the Horn of Africa, 2020-2021, Jay Mariano went above and beyond what was required, to assure my leave and health benefits were all covered. He and his wife stayed in close contact with my wife during the deployment. He kept me well stocked with coffee, beef jerkey and twizzlers, and even helped my wife arrange a surprise welcome home party at my house when I returned.”

Jeffery Hill, Pennsylvania Southeast ESGR volunteer, presented the Patriot Award to YennMarianoer.  In presenting the awards, Hill commented: “It’s critical and an honor to recognize employers that hire and support our Guard and Reserve forces.  It would be difficult for those in the uniformed services to perform their mission without employer support.”  Also noteworthy about Mariano’s support for Jones are his efforts to maintaining communications while deployed, sending care packages, supporting his family, and surprising Jones with a party upon his return from the Horn of Africa.

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States. ESGR facilitates and promotes a cooperative culture of employer support for National Guard and Reserve service by developing and advocating mutually beneficial initiatives, recognizing outstanding employer support, increasing awareness of applicable laws and policies, resolving potential conflicts between employers and their service members, and acting as the employers’ principal advocate within DoD. Paramount to ESGR's mission is encouraging employment of Guardsmen and Reservists who bring integrity, global perspective and proven leadership to the civilian workforce.
