SEATTLE – Kimberli Dewing, field administrator for Washington State Department of Corrections in Seattle, was presented with a Patriot Award in recognition of her extraordinary support of an employee who serves in the Washington Army National Guard.  The award presentation was arraigned by Washington Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve’s Larry Kirchner, a military outreach coordinator.

Dewing was nominated by Washington Army National Guardsman Sgt. Maj. Joshua Keliikoa, a sergeant for the Transportation and Extradition unit with the Department of Correction’s Community Corrections Division in his civilian career, for Dewing’s support of his military service.

“The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said Kirchner. “Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”

Keliikoa, in nominating Dewing expressed his appreciation for the support and accommodation provided by Ms Dewing, citing her support and understanding of his reserve military duties. “Ms. Dewing is understanding of my military duties, making my life much easier and alleviating many of the stressors of coming and going from civilian to military duty,” said Keliikoa.

“Receiving the Patriot Award was a great honor I was not expecting,” said Dewing. “My thanks go out to the brave people that serve our country and I hope to continue my support in any way I am able.”

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States.
