FORT HARRISON, Mont. – Supervisory Staff Administrator Eric Kolar, Army Reserve 652nd Regional Support Group's (652nd RSG) was honored with an Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Patriot Award with a nomination from his employee Montana Army Reserve 1st Sgt. Kendra Irby 889th Quartermaster Company.

Montana ESGR volunteer Tim Fox and Irby presented the award before 50 plus members of the 652nd RSG. On behalf of Irby, Montana ESGR applauds Eric Kolar for being a supportive employer.

National Guard and Reserve members recognize their supportive employers with a Patriot Award. Employer support comes in many forms including time off prior to and after a deployment, flexible schedules, support to families and granting a leave of absence if required.

The Patriot Award nomination from Irby reads, “My employer is fully supportive in all aspects of my career, he continually checks in on me to ensure I have everything I need to be successful. Mr. Kolar will be extremely flexible and fair with my schedule, even on short notice. When I was quarantined, Mr. Kolar not only fixed my computer, but he brought it out to me along with other requests so I could still be effective in my mission requirements. He is a unicorn, rare and magical and should be recognized for being an amazing and supportive leader.”

When deployed, the main job of the 652nd is customer service, making sure Soldiers on the ground are taken care. The 652nd RSG members are responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations providing life-sustaining services to Soldiers. Services include assigning rooms and spaces for units, dealing with everyday maintenance issues, setting up morale welfare and recreation areas for the Soldiers. They also oversee the contractors who provided services such as operating the laundry or dining facilities, as well as those working to improve or expand the infrastructure of the base camps.

In 2022, ESGR celebrates 50 years of engaging with employers and their National Guard and Reserve employees to support, inform, and strengthen a relationship that’s critical to our national security. It’s a rich legacy to build on for the next 50 years!

As a program of the Department of Defense, ESGR works to assure National Guard and Reserve military personnel are treated fairly and legally with regard to their civilian jobs. Their vision is to develop and promote a culture in which all American employers support and value the military service of their employees.
