POLSON, Mont. - Supervisors Justin Brester and Mike Cullen of Polson Ambulance received Department of Defense Patriot Awards in recognition of their extraordinary support of their employee serving in the Montana Army National Guard.

Montana Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) volunteer Heather Merritt presented the awards to two very surprised and pleased awardees on behalf of Montana Army National Guard Specialist Victor Loff.

The Patriot Award publicly recognizes civilian employers providing patriotic support and cooperation to their civilian employees serving in the Guard or Reserve. Supportive employers help maintain the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.

The nomination written by Spc. Loff reads, “Polson Ambulance has gone above and beyond supporting not only myself, but also a co-worker and soldier of the same unit. When I inform them of time off needed, I get an upbeat, “sounds good,” without any further questions. It’s a 4 to 5-hour drive from my home to drill. They have offered the work place sleeping quarters as an option to stay the night off duty, if needed to make travel more efficient as they are an hour closer. They have provided myself and another soldier a useful middle ground to exchange gear as well."

The nomination continues, "Their support has encouraged me to take additional schools, like air assault and BLC [Basic Leader Course], without worry of repercussions. With the upcoming deployment of our unit, they have graciously given me time to spend with my family, despite their large need for hours filled. Short notices of scheduled changes have not affected our excellent working relationship.”

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, works to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve. For more information about ESGR outreach programs, call (800) 336-4590 or visit www.ESGR.mil.

Congratulations Justin Brester and Mike Cullen of Polson Ambulance for being supportive civilian employers of our Montana Guard and Reserve. You provide a valuable service to our country by hiring our Montana Guard and Reserve members.
