ESGR in the News

OLYMPIA, Wash.  – Angela Vlach, president and CEO at Financial Advocates, was presented with and Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award in recognition of her support of her employees who serve in the Reserve Components.  The award was presented by Washington ESGR State Chair Phil Sanders in a virtual presentation attended by over 30 employees.

Vlach was nominated by Army Reserve Major Elvis Medica, executive vice president and chief growth officer in his civilian career. “Angela is extremely supportive of my participation in the Army Reserve,” said Medica.  “She recognizes the sacrifices citizen soldiers make and believe employers should shoulder some of that responsibility as well.”

“National Guard and Reserve members bring tremendous skills and capabilities to our workforce, and employer support for their military service is critical to maintaining the strength of our Guard and Reserve units,” said Sanders. “By valuing the military service of their Guard and Reserve employees, employers are directly supporting the readiness and retention of our All-Volunteer Force, and our national defense.”

Additionally, on behalf of Financial Advocates, Vlach was also presented with the ESGR Above and Beyond Award.

“The ESGR Above and Beyond Award was created to publicly recognize U.S. employers providing extraordinary patriotic support and cooperation to their employees who have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said Sanders. “Many employers provide support far beyond what USERRA requires, including pay differential to offset the loss of wages, and extension of health care benefits to complement coverage provided by the military when their employees mobilized.”

Financial Advocates was awarded the Above and Beyond Award for providing its employees additional time off to offset the loss of wages when those employees were called to serve.  “Financial Advocates support is further evidenced by providing additional paid time off during my annual and other training requirements” explained Medica.

“Thank you for this recognition,” said Vlach. “While I am grateful for the recognition, supporting employees that are citizen service members is something that all employers should do.”

ESGR is a Department of Defense program that develops and promotes supportive work environments for service members in the National Guard and Reserve through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities that increase awareness of applicable laws. ESGR also provides assistance in resolving conflicts between Service members and their employers.
