ESGR in the News

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Office Depot Manager Ron Perdue was presented an Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award recently in recognition of his tremendous support of his employee, Pfc. Class Heath Smiley who serves in the Florida Army National Guard.

“The Patriot Award was created by the Department of Defense to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the Citizen Warriors before them, have answered the Nation’s call to serve,” said Tim Lambert, ESGR State Vice-Chair for the North Florida Region while presenting the award to Perdue.

Smiley said in his nomination Narrative, “Mr. Perdue always has my back and supports the National Guard through even the most trying times. Even on short notice for military duty, Mr. Perdue always worked with me and never held it against me. In fact, he would encourage me to go and he always ensured I would have a work schedule when I returned. When I was on the verge of being homeless, he offered me a place to put my belongings. Ron Perdue is a great man; a leader and I look up to him and admire his work ethic. I have never met anyone who was so supportive of the military and his employees.”

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States.
