BONNEY LAKE, Wash. – Jeff England, a police sergeant with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, was presented with a Patriot Award, by Ohad Lowy, south sound area co-chair for the Washington Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) for the extraordinary support he provides his employee who serves in the Washington National Guard.

England was nominated by Washington National Guardsman 2nd Lt. Ian Schwartz, a Deputy Sheriff with the Piece County Sheriff’s Department.  “Sergeant Jeff England works hard to ensure that several deputies he supervises, included myself are well supported when we have National Guard duty,” said Schwartz.

The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees who have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said Lowy. “By valuing the military service of their Guard and Reserve employees, employers are directly supporting the readiness and retention of our All-Volunteer Force, and our national defense.”

“I recently received orders for a 17-week Army training in short notice,” said Schwartz. “Sgt. England has been very supportive and coordinated my leave immediately.  I feel better at my training knowing that he not only supports me, but supports my partners and ensures they have people on overtime to give them the staffing they need to be safe.”

ESGR is a Department of Defense program that develops and promotes supportive work environments for service members in the National Guard and Reserve through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities that increase awareness of applicable laws. ESGR also provides assistance in resolving conflicts between Service members and their employers.
