ESGR in the News

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Liza Redmond of St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg received the Department of Defense Patriot Award for her support of the Guard and Reserve members that work for the organization.

Redmond was nominated for the award by U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Capt. Michael Nichols. Roger Trout, Florida ESGR vice chair presented the award to Redmond.

“During this past year, COVID-19 took its toll on the USMCR and St Anthony’s Hospital where I work as a nurse,” said Nichols.” There were many instances where my military commitments changed on short notice and Liza understood my situation completely. Despite dealing with staffing issues and adapting to new working conditions, Liza frequently change my schedule and fully supported my service in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. Any reserve military member would be lucky to have a supervisor like Liza, and I feel that she is fully deserving of this award.”

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense program established in 1972. The Florida committee is chaired by retired Army Maj. Gen. Rita Broadway. The mission of ESGR is to gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the law, and resolving conflict through mediation.
