OLYMPIA, Wash.  – Senior Project Manager John Gilson and Superintendent Sean Hamelin, both of Walsh Construction, were recently presented with a Patriot Award by Mary Miller, south sound area co-chair for the Washington Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve(ESGR), in recognition of extraordinary support of their employee serving in the Coast Guard Reserve.

Gilson and Hamelin were nominated by Coast Guard Reserve Lt. Cmdr. Adam Parga, a superintendent at Walsh Construction.  “When I have to be away from work, John and my team set me up for success,” said Parga. “Sean is very accommodating of my military service. He is an army veteran and understands and appreciates military service.”

“The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees who have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said Miller. “Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”

Both supervisors were honored to receive the Patriot Award.  “Adam is great to work with and this award is quite a surprise,” said Hamelin.  “[I am] very surprised and honored by the recognition,” said Gilson.  “Adam is an excellent employee.”

ESGR is a Department of Defense program that develops and promotes supportive work environments for service members in the National Guard and Reserve through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities that increase awareness of applicable laws. ESGR also provides assistance in resolving conflicts between Service members and their employers.
