SPOKANE, Wash. – Brian Goodwin, operational supervisor, and Devin Yates, violence prevention training supervisor, at Providence Sacred Heart received the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award for the extraordinary support they provide their employees who serve in the Reserve Components. The awards were presented by James Wynne, Washington ESGR employer outreach representative.

Goodwin and Yates were nominated by Washington Army National Guardsman Geoff Connolly, a security officer at Providence Sacred Heart. In his nomination, Connolly thanked Goodwin and Yates for their support him and his military career.

“The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees who have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said Wynne. “National Guard and Reserve members bring tremendous skills and capabilities to our workforce, and employer support for their military service is critical to maintaining the strength of our Guard and Reserve units. By valuing the military service of their Guard and Reserve employees, employers are directly supporting the readiness and retention of our All-Volunteer Force, and our national defense.”

“I am very honored to receive this recognition as a “Patriotic Employer” and encourage all of our officers to make a positive impact on the world around them,” said Goodwin.

“We are both humbled and honored to receive such recognition,” said Yates.  “We care very deeply for the officers on our department and are especially proud of those who choose to serve our country in the armed services. I am particularly honored by receiving this recognition as a “Patriotic Employer” having been a U.S. Army Infantrymen with the 101st Airborne Division, having my son be an ROTC student attending UNLV, and having come from a long lineage of former military service members in our family who have honorably served our great nation.”

ESGR is a Department of Defense program that develops and promotes supportive work environments for service members in the National Guard and Reserve through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities that increase awareness of applicable laws.
