ESGR in the News

GOFFSTOWN, N.H. – High Sheriff Christopher Connelly, Chief Deputy Sheriff Gary Fisher, Police Lt. Matthew Estey and Deputy Mike Merrifield, of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, received the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award recently for the extraordinary support they provided employee 1st Lt. Jacob Hatch who serves in the New Hampshire Army National Guard.

The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees who have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said ESGR vice Chair Jim Moody. “Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”

“National Guard and Reserve members bring tremendous skills and capabilities to our workforce, and employer support for their military service is critical to maintaining the strength of our Guard and Reserve units,” said Jim Moody, Vice Chair ESGR. “By valuing the military service of their Guard and Reserve employees, employers are directly supporting the readiness and retention of our All-Volunteer Force, and our national defense.”

“1st Lt. Hatch is currently on a long-term mobilization at the southwest border.  He was mobilized for a month on short notice to support mission planning prior to his deployment.  He says the sheriff's office was extremely understanding and supportive of his service, even though, as a small law enforcement agency, it was placing a burden on the rest of the workforce.  Connelly stated that "it was their honor and duty to support Hatch's military service.”

ESGR is a Department of Defense program that develops and promotes supportive work environments for service members in the National Guard and Reserve through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities that increase awareness of applicable laws. ESGR also provides assistance in resolving conflicts between Service members and their employers.
