CAMP MURRAY, Wash. – Typically Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve presents awards on the behalf of service members to employers who have been supportive of their military service, but recently the Washington ESGR Committee had the opportunity to recognize members of the Washington Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Battalion for its support of ESGR’s mission.
State Chair Phil Sanders and South Sound co-Chair Ohad Lowy the Seven Seals Awards to Sgt. 1st Class Jeffrey Osman, and to the Recruiting and Retention Battalion, which was accepted by Lt. Col. Andres Sebastian and Command Sgt. Maj. Daniel Hagemeier, for the support provided to ESGR’s mission during the 2019 Seafair.
“ESGR supports National Guard and Reserve service members by being available when they are having employment issues with their civilian employer. However, the Washington Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Battalion (RRB) came to our assistance when we were at Genese Park in Seattle for Seafair 2019,” said Sanders. “Sgt. 1st Class Ossman and members of the RRB helped with setting up our tent and making a prime space available for us to speak to the public and potential recruits about USERRA [Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act] and the protections it gives reserve force service members. Without their assistance, especially Sgt. 1st Class Osman’s, ESGR would have not been able to carry out its mission.”
The Seven Seals Award is the broadest and most inclusive award given by ESGR and is presented at the discretion of the state chair. The award is presented in recognition of significant individual or organizational achievement, initiatives, or support that promotes and supports the ESGR mission. The Seven Seals Award is symbolic of the seven services: Army National Guard, Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve, and Coast Guard Reserve.
“We also honor the RRB command because the support we received happened due to encouraging their troops to be available to assist when assistance is needed,” said Sanders. We are grateful for the help we received, and it exemplifies a willingness to support those who support them.”
ESGR is a Department of Defense program that develops and promotes supportive work environments for service members in the National Guard and Reserve through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities that increase awareness of applicable laws. ESGR also provides assistance in resolving conflicts between Service members and their employers.
