EAGAN, Minn. – In 2021, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota celebrates five years of being named a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon company. Back in January 2016, Blue Cross became the first Minnesota health plan to be honored with this designation, recognizing our company’s proactive support for service members, veterans and their families.
“National Guardsmen and Reservists are being called on more and more to support both state and federal operations. I could not do my job as a medical officer in the Air Force Reserves if I did not have the backing of an employer like Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota,” says Joe Fruhman, a marketing manager and co-leader of the Allies of the Military associate resource group (ARG).
During a virtual ceremony in April, Chris Fanning, senior vice president of commercial markets at Blue Cross, signed a Statement of Support with the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR).
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve is a Department of Defense program to promote cooperation and understanding between Guard and Reserve members and their civilian employers. This statement is signed each year by companies who pledge to support their associates who also serve in military roles. Blue has signed this statement of support each year for the past several years.
“We are so grateful for the sacrifice and service that our military and their families make,” says Fanning. “It is truly an honor and privilege to be able to do what we can to support military families.”
