ESGR in the News

HONOLULU – Renee Vea, Fresenius Kidney Care clinical manager, received the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award April 2 for the extraordinary support she provides her employee Sgt. Michele Kay Saiki.

The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees who have answered their nation’s call to serve. Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.

National Guard and Reserve members bring tremendous skills and capabilities to our workforce, and employer support for their military service is critical to maintaining the strength of our Guard and Reserve units. By valuing the military service of their Guard and Reserve employees, employers are directly supporting the readiness and retention of our All-Volunteer Force, and our national defense.

“My nurse clinical manager, Renee Vea, is always supportive of my initiative to volunteer for extra missions/taskers from the 9th Mission Support Command. There was a last minute tasker for medics to support the 9th MSC HHC Soldiers’ Readiness Processing (SRP) at the Conroy Bowl on Schofield Barracks and my orders were pending, but another Soldier-medic and myself showed up to administer hundreds of vaccines to Soldiers. We successfully accomplished the mission. That wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my manager, Ms. Vea. She could’ve said no because I gave her a civilian employer memo one day before the mission because I had no orders. But she allowed me to fulfill my Army Reserve obligation even though it meant she and her staff would be short-staffed. She deserves to be recognized for her selfless service,” said Sgt. Saiki.

ESGR is a Department of Defense program that develops and promotes supportive work environments for service members in the National Guard and Reserve through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities that increase awareness of applicable laws. ESGR also provides assistance in resolving conflicts between Service members and their employers.
