ESGR in the News

SPOKANE, Wash. – Jason Boudreau, owner and operator of Drive509, received the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award recently for the extraordinary support he provides his employee Washington Army National Guard Pfc. Theodore Ratcliff, an instructor at Drive509.  The award was presented by Washington ESGR volunteer Jim Wynne.

“The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees who have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said Wynne “Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”

“I have been on full-time orders with the Guard for almost one year and he continues to check in on how I’m doing and if I need anything,” said Ratcliff. “I make more income at my civilian job and he has made up the difference in pay while I’m on orders; he’s happy to do so. He also continues to provide me with the benefits I normally have. It’s like I never missed a beat!”

National Guard and Reserve members bring tremendous skills and capabilities to our workforce, and employer support for their military service is critical to maintaining the strength of our Guard and Reserve units,” said Wynne. “By valuing the military service of their Guard and Reserve employees, employers are directly supporting the readiness and retention of our All-Volunteer Force, and our national defense.”

“My supervisor is always supportive of my duties with the Army National Guard one hundred percent of the time, no questions asked,” said Ratcliff. “He recognizes the benefits that we provide as the National Guard continues to support our missions in the local community.”

ESGR is a Department of Defense program that develops and promotes supportive work environments for service members in the National Guard and Reserve through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities that increase awareness of applicable laws. ESGR also provides assistance in resolving conflicts between Service members and their employers.
