HORSHAM, Pa. – Pennsylvania ESGR committee regrets to announce that Mountain Area Chair Harry Zeznanski passed away suddenly and unexpectedly January 26. Zeznanski’s distinguished career in the U.S Army and Army Reserve includes service in the Vietnam War, Honduras, and the Global War on Terrorism with service in the Philippines, Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He retired from his Army career as Command Sergeant Major and joined the ESGR team in 2007.
Zeznanski’s exceptional service as an ESGR volunteer led the way in mentoring new volunteers and outstanding service to Guard and Reserve personnel. In addition to his position as Mountain Area Chair, he was an extremely active Ombudsman was always volunteering to assume cases. According to State Ombudsman Coordinator Terry Curran: “He was one of my best Ombudsman and I always could depend on him…” His strong leadership and mentorship of other Ombudsman through annual refresher training seminars contributed significantly to improving case processing throughout Pennsylvania. So exceptional were Zeznanski’s contributions to the state committee that now Chair Emeritus Wes Craig recognized him in 2019 with an Outstanding Volunteer Award for his many years of dedicated service.
In remembering Zeznanski, State Chair Marty Kuhar said: “(he) was a true Patriot for his service to his country and to his fellow veterans and their families. … As an ESGR Area Chair and Ombudsman, he set a standard for the rest of us to follow. We have been very fortunate to have had him in our ranks.”
The entire Pennsylvania ESGR family extend our condolence and deepest sympathy to Zeznanski’s family. He was a valued and respected member that contributed much to all who knew and worked closely with him. Rest in peace Harry!
