ESGR in the News

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Police Sgt. Mike Powers of the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office was presented a Patriot Award Jan. 6 by U.S. Navy Reserve Lt. j.g. Tom Thueson, in recognition of his extraordinary support while Thueson was mobilized for one year with the Navy.

The virtual ceremony was presided by ESGR State Vice-Chair Tim Lambert who said, “The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered the Nation’s call to serve.”

Lambert went on to say, “Sgt. Powers was nominated for being highly supportive of Thueson. Supportive managers and supervisors are absolutely critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the Nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”

Thueson expressed, “Sgt. Mike Powers has given me tremendous support during my one-year mobilization with the Navy. When I notified my agency of my activation with the Navy Reserve, he ensured I had everything I needed before, during and upon my return from active duty. Sgt. Powers has always been very supportive of my weekend drills, annual training, active duty for training, and any last-minute military orders given to me.”

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States.
