SEATTLE – Washington Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense program, presented the King County Sheriff’s Office the ESGR Above and Beyond Award in recognition of the extraordinary support that the King County Sheriff’s Office provide its employees who serve in the Reserve Components. The award was accepted on behalf of the Department by Undersheriff Patti Cole-Tindall which was presented in a virtual meeting by Washington ESGR State Chair Phil Sanders.

King County Sheriff’s Office was nominated by Air Force Reserve Tech. Sgt. Melinda Calvert who works as a 911 dispatcher in her civilian job.  “As an employee with King County Sheriff’s Office, I have felt nothing but respect and support for my service to our nation,” said Calvert.  “I know that I do feel they have supported me especially with my civilian job, as a 911 dispatcher, creates a lot of challenges to find coverage for me in my absence.”

Calvert was recognized along with other veterans at their first day of employment and during her employment she was presented with a King County Veteran’s Service challenge coin.

“The Above and Beyond Award was created by ESGR to recognize employers at the local level who have gone above and beyond the legal requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act by providing their Guard and Reserve employees additional, non-mandated benefits,” said Sanders. “The award is given in a limited number by state committees to employers who have also been recognized with an ESGR Patriot Award.”

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States.
