ESGR in the News

EAGAN, Minn. – On Veterans Day at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Marc Baer, vice president of health services, and Matt Johnson, director of marketing, received the Employer Support of The Guard and Reserve Patriot Awards during a virtual Veterans’ Day event Nov. 11, honoring Blue Cross associates who have served our country.

The virtual event was attended by the Blue Cross Blue Shield Chief Executive Officer Dr. Craig Samitt and viewed by over 80 employees.

Marc was nominated by John Lunieski, a clinical product manager at Blue Cross and major in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. Matt was nominated by Joe Fruhman, a marketing manager for commercial markets, captain in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and coordinator of Blue Cross’ Allies of the Military associate resource group (ARG).

Both Joe and John serve in squadrons based at the 934th Airlift Wing at Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport. Their squadrons were called into service in the spring and summer of 2020 to support COVID-19 relief efforts. Both Reservists were appreciative of their supervisor's cooperation with their employment at Blue Cross and their military duties and wanted to honor them.

Representing ESGR was John Kingrey, an ESGR Minnesota Leadership Committee member. ESGR is a Department of Defense program which seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and ESGR Reserve in the United States.
