LINCOLN, Neb. – Black Hills Energy vice president of Nebraska Gas Operations, Kevin Jarosz, signed a Department of Defense Statement of Support during a virtual presentation attended by Nebraska Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Daryl Bohac and ESGR volunteer Bruce Wood.
“Our company is proud to support those who have served and those still serving. In fact, we have established a Veterans Engagement Team (VET), as an employee resource group focused on recruiting, retaining, and advocating for military members and veterans across Black Hills Energy; with the vision to be a workplace of choice for military personnel and veterans,” said Jarosz.
Jarosz went on to say, “One of the initiatives our VETs group started is Red Shirt Fridays to Remember Everyone Deployed (R.E.D.). Although it’s not Friday, I am wearing my red shirt today in support of those currently deployed. Black Hills Energy recognizes that people with military experience bring a unique perspective to the table through their global experiences. Employees who have served or are serving in the military understand that every second counts; they are resilient and know how to perform under stress. Military employees possess critical skills and believe that nothing is impossible. They also know how to make decisions and take responsibility for meeting objectives. Finally, military employees are excellent leaders, loyal, dedicated, and highly motivated. Today we want to show our support to our military members currently serving by signing a Statement of Support with ESGR (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve). The Guard and Reserve are an integral part of our military. Almost half of the men and women serving in our Armed Forces are members of the Guard and Reserve.”
The Veterans Engagement Team has previously conducted Statement of Support signing events, in Arkansas, Colorado, Wyoming and South Dakota.
By signing this Statement of Support, Black Hill Energy is publicly demonstrating support for those currently serving.
Black Hills Energy pledges that:
- We fully recognize, honor, and comply with the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act.
- We will provide our managers and supervisors with the tools they need to efficiently manage employees who serve in the Guard and Reserve.
- We appreciate the values, leadership, and unique skills Service members bring to the workforce and will encourage opportunities to hire Guardsmen and women, Reservists, and Veterans.
- We will continuously recognize and support our country’s Service members and their families, in peace, in crises, and in war.

Signing this Statement of Support is a way for us to show our commitment to strengthen our network within the communities we serve and be an advocate of employee participation in the military.
When asked about the criteria, Michael Navrkal, Chair of the Nebraska ESGR Committee said, "Throughout its history, Black Hills Energy has made community a priority for their company.
