ESGR in the News


JOHNSTON, Iowa – The Iowa Committee of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), a Department of Defense program, is pleased to announce the selection of Rebecca Coady as the organization’s state chair, effective October 1, 2020. 

Coady is vice president, ABI Foundation, with the Iowa Association of Business and Industry of Des Moines.

The State Chair is an official Department of Defense volunteer position with a three-year term of service, renewable one time.  Coady will serve under the ESGR Executive Director, U.S. Navy Capt. Robert Underhill and she will take her oath of office at an upcoming virtual ceremony.  Coady will provide the leadership and vision for a team of nearly 100 dedicated volunteers throughout Iowa who carry out the ESGR mission.

“I am excited to lead the Iowa Committee,” said Coady. “The Iowa volunteers are dedicated to the mission of ESGR – serving both the citizen-soldiers of the Iowa National Guard and Reserve, as well as the companies, municipalities, and organizations which employ them.”

Coady is well known throughout the Iowa ESGR and National ESGR organization – she served as the Volunteer Support Technician for nearly 11 years, overseeing all daily operations and coordination of the state-wide team.  With almost half of the United States’ military force serving in the Guard or Reserve, Coady will have a direct impact on these men and women, and their civilian employers.  She joins 53 other chairs who oversee the ESGR mission in the 50 states, three territories, and the District of Columbia.

ESGR is a Department of Defense program that develops and promotes supportive work environment’s for service members in the National Guard and Reserve through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities that increase awareness of applicable laws. ESGR also provides assistance in resolving conflicts between service members and their employers.
