Aurora, Colo. - Colorado ESGR Committee State Chair Darrel Williamson and Awards Director Mark Lilevjen presented the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award and the Pro Patria award to CACI International Inc at CACI’s offices in the Denver Technical Center September 25.
CACI, along with 14 other recipients were selected from 2,623 nominations received from Guardsmen and Reservists highlighting how their civilian employers went far beyond what the federal law requires to support them. The Freedom Award began in 1996 under the auspices of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve to recognize exceptional employer support, with 295 honorees to date.
The ceremony, which included several military and local government officials, along with CACI’s executive leadership, began with a video highlighting CACI’s employees in the Denver area who also serve in the military, followed by remarks from Army Reserve Capt. Samuel Lee, who nominated CACI for the Freedom Award and is currently deployed in Europe. Williamson led the program with opening remarks, highlighting the importance of the Freedom Award and how critical employer support is to the success of the Reserve Component in Colorado, and throughout the U.S.
Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman congratulated CACI on being a Freedom Award recipient and praised their commitment to their Guard and Reserve employees, as well as their contributions to the Aurora community. Coffman also noted his own experience as a Reservist has greatly influenced his continued commitment to support those serving the Guard and Reserve. Brig. Gen. Laura Clellan, Colorado’s Adjutant General, followed Coffman and discussed how strong employer support for military service supports retention and serves as a force multiplier for the National Guard in the State.
Lilevjen presented the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Pro Patria Award to CACI from the Colorado ESGR Committee as the large business that went above and beyond in supporting their Guard and Reserve members. He talked about Lee’s experience with the company and how CACI was extremely supportive of Lee’s deployment, even though he had only been with the company for a few months prior to his departure. Darrel Williamson then presented CACI with the Freedom Award, calling out the many benefits and favorable policies CACI has in place to support their Service member employees, which earned them the highest Department of Defense award for employer support. In addition, Williamson presented a congratulatory letter and challenge coins from ESGR National Chair Ron Bogle.
