COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) committee, a Department of Defense program, is pleased to announce the selection of Michael J. Bamber, as the new ESGR Chair for Ohio.
The State Chair is an official Department of Defense volunteer position with a three-year term of service, renewable one time. Bamber will serve under the ESGR Executive Director, U.S. Navy Capt. Robert Underhill.
Bamber will provide the leadership and vision for a team of dedicated volunteers throughout Ohio to carry out the ESGR mission.
“Our team has had the great fortune to have Mike as our Vice Chair for the past several years. He is a strong compassionate leader. Mike is the right person at the right time to lead this organization during this very challenging time. I know under his leadership Ohio men and women in uniform will continue to receive the best support our country can provide,” said former Ohio ESGR State Chair Rufus Smith.
Bamber, a retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. is a native of Cincinnati, has served over 20 years on active duty. He has also served as a volunteer for ESGR for the last 8 years in the Missouri and Ohio areas. Most recently, he served as Vice Chair for Ohio’s ESGR Committee.
“I am humbled and honored to be selected as State Chair for the Ohio ESGR committee,” said Bamber. “I look forward to working with our outstanding volunteers to continue serving the Reserve Component service members and their families as well as educating and rewarding their employers for their exceptional support.”
With almost half of the United States’ military force serving in the Guard or Reserve, Bamber will have a direct impact on these men and women, and their civilian employers. He joins 53 other chairs who oversee the ESGR mission in the 50 states, three territories, and the District of Columbia.
ESGR is a Department of Defense program that develops and promotes supportive work environments for service members in the National Guard and Reserve through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities that increase awareness of applicable laws.
