ESGR in the News

STANDWOOD, Wash. – The UPS Store Manager John Russell received the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award for the extraordinary support he provides his employee, Marine Corps Reserve Lance Cpl. Zane MacKinnon.  The award was presented by ESGR volunteers Larry Lundberg and John Van Dalen earlier this spring.

The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees who have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said Van Dalen. “Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”

“I nominated John Russell for making conscious efforts towards me and his effort to recognize other active reservists and military veterans by thanking them for their service and allowing for flexible work schedules which ensures all military obligations are met,” said MacKinnon.

“I was surprised and pleased to receive the Patriot Award and I continue to thank Zane for his service,” said Russell.  “I support Zane and other military members who serve our county.  We know we are getting a known asset when we hire veterans or reservists like Zane because we know of the training and work culture they display everyday on the job.”

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States.
