COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Committee of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve announces the launch of their formal search for the next Ohio ESGR State Chair.

The State Chair is an official Department of Defense volunteer position with a three-year term of service. State Chairs are required to take an oath of office and are appointed by the ESGR Executive director. The Ohio State Chair’s role is to provide the leadership and vision for a team of dedicated volunteers throughout insert state to carry out the ESGR mission.

ESGR is a Department of Defense program that develops and promotes supportive work environments for service members in the Reserve Components through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities that increase awareness of applicable laws. ESGR carries out its mission through its headquarters staff and nearly 3,500 volunteers across 54 State Committees who conduct proactive outreach to Service members and employers to make them aware of their rights and responsibilities under the Uniformed Service Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA); provide no-cost, neutral mediation to Service members and their employers when issues arise; seek out and recognize those employers that have demonstrated extraordinary support of their military employees and their families; and provide programs that help to demystify the culture of the citizen-soldier military.

The Search Committee is seeking candidates that may have an interest in being considered for this Department of Defense (DoD) posting as the Ohio State Committee Chair. The Chair would report to the Executive Director on programs and operations. There is occasional travel involved (health conditions permitting), both across the 88 counties of the State of Ohio as well as collaborative and training sessions in support of the ESGR programs across the country. The position will require a senior leadership background; a cultural background in the military; a comfort and experience in a variety of public speaking environments; a demonstrated ability to develop and write sound long range strategies for the Committee operations; a demonstrated background in private and public sector funding and budget development and management; an extensive network of employer and employer association contacts to advance employer support; and the recruitment, training, and sustainment of positive volunteer development and employment.

Proven leaders who are interested and meet qualifying skills for the Ohio ESGR State Chair position, are encouraged to submit a nomination. To be considered for selection, each interested candidate should submit a nomination package, to include the following items: 

1. Biographical summary or resume
2. A letter stating his/her reason(s) for interest in serving, and thoughts and plans for leading the Ohio ESGR state committee
3. Other supporting materials, as appropriate (recommendations, etc.)
