ESGR in the News

OAK HARBOR, Wash. – Oak Harbor Police Department Chief of Police Kevin Dresker was presented with a Patriot Award Feb. 19 at the semi-monthly City Council Meeting by John Van Dalen, ombudsman for the Washington Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, in recognition of extraordinary support of his employees for serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Dawson was nominated by Coast Guard Reserve Warrant Officer Tony Slowik, who is an Engineering Officer serving with the USCG Port Security Unit 313 at Naval Station Everett.

“I nominated Chief of Police Dresker for making conscious efforts to recognize active reservist and military veterans by thanking them for their service and allowing for flexible work schedules which ensures all military obligation are met.” said Slowik.

“The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said Van Dalen. “Supportive supervisors and managers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”

“I was surprised to receive the Patriot Award and I continue to thank Tony for his service” said Dresker.  “I support Tony and our military who serve our county.  We hire veterans. We know we are getting a known asset when we hire veterans or reservists like Slowik because we know of the training and work culture they display everyday on the job.”

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States.
