ESGR in the News

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Pennsylvania Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve awarded the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat newspaper a Seven Seals Award for their outstanding support of employees serving in the Guard and Reserves.

The paper’s support of service members was underscored by having a reporter attend this year’s ESGR Boss Lift at Fort Indiantown Gap in Annville. The reporter, Dave Sutor, interviewed attendees, took videos and photos; he followed up his visit with an article to relate his experience to the Johnstown community.

Pennsylvania’s ESGR Mountain Area Chair Marty Kuhar presented the Seven Seals Award to the paper’s editor, Chip Minemyer, and mentioned that the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat has for years been a staunch supporter of our citizen soldiers.  In presenting the award, Marty stated “We’re very lucky, in the Johnstown area, to have The Tribune-Democrat, who have always supported veterans and military-type event stories.”

In accepting the award, Minemyer said: “This is an incredible honor and a very meaningful award, and we thank the ESGR for choosing us… We consider it part of our mission as a local news outlet to cover the experiences of local service men and women – both in a contemporary sense and historically. The Cambria-Somerset region has given much in service to the country, including the Guard and Reserve, and the area is passionate about military service and veterans’ concerns. We just strive to continually represent that relationship.”
