DES MOINES, Wash. – Anthony Mizin, superintendent, and Fikreab Mulugeta, project engineer, of Walsh Construction were presented with Patriot Awards Sept. 6 by Larry Kirchner, military outreach representative for the Washington State Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Committee, in recognition of their extraordinary support of an employee who serves in the United States Coast Guard Reserve.

Mizin and Mulugeta were nominated by Coast Guard Reserve Lt. Cmdr. Adam Parga, a project engineer in his civilian position, for their support of his military service with the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound in Seattle.

“The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said Kirchner. “Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”

Parga, at the award presentation, expressed his appreciation for the support and accommodation provided by Mizin and Mulugeta, as well as others at his workplace, “These two, as well as others at Walsh Construction, are very accommodating of my military service,” said Parga.  Whenever I’m on orders they set me up for success. Walsh Construction is a very military friendly company.”

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States.
