OXNARD, Calif. – On behalf of the California Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, volunteer Ernest Cowell presented Lynn Dines and Scott Roland with a Patriot Award recently. Dines and Roland received the award for the extraordinary support they provide their United States Marine Corps Reserve employee Sgt. Colin Mankowski.

“The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said Jim Combs, California ESGR state chair. “Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”

Mankowski stated: “When preparing to leave for deployment, my company afforded me additional resources and attention to ensure I had absolutely everything I could need for my transition to Active Duty. My company's President and CEO, Lynn Dines, has developed through policy, practice and values, an atmosphere that freely encourages and supports Reserve members conducting their military service obligations despite the toll it can burden on our customers and clientele. My office communicated with me and my wife to provide information and develop an open relationship to support my wife while I was away. When I transitioned back into the Reserves, I informed my now regional manager that I wanted to return to work in 2-3 weeks and he worked diligently to find available positions on contracts so I could return to work without delay. The SSI team helped tremendously, by going outside of their normal duties and responsibilities to ensure I could come back to work, with every asset and opportunity to excel while treating me fairly and just despite coming back so suddenly in a field where it takes time and considerable communication to facilitate a position(s) for contractors. I was reinstated at a Logistics Analyst and provided a raise based on my tenure and expertise, I feel my service to the company and the nation is cherished by my employer.”

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and values the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States.
