ESGR in the News

SANTA MONICA, Calif. – On behalf of the California Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, volunteer Ernest Cowell presented Danny Zhou and Douglas Cheung with a Patriot Award Aug. 29. Zhou and Cheung received the award for the extraordinary support they provide their California Air National Guard employee, Airman 1st Class Erik Barajas.

“The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve,” said Jim Combs, California ESGR state chair. “Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units.”

Barajas stated: “I recently had to leave work for 6 months to attend Air Force Basic Training, Tech School, and complete some OJT with my unit. During my time away, Danny and Doug have been nothing but extremely supportive of my military commitment. Both Danny, Doug, and the rest of the have welcomed me back with open arms and continue to look out for my career and family. I'm truly grateful.”

ESGR, a Department of Defense program, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and values the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States.
