SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The Puerto Rico Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve hosted its Annual Planning and Awards Meeting Aug. 9 at Puerto Rico National Guard Headquarters. Special guests for this event was The Adjutant General of Puerto Rico, Maj. Gen. José Juan Reyes and Ronney Lloyd ESGR Regional Coordinator.

The APAM event was organized in a manner that allowed the committee new and old members to have a learning time about the resources that are available to them at the committee level. The format for this learning experience/event, was that of a train the trainer, which allowed several members from the different regions throughout the territory of Puerto Rico, a chance to showcase their expertise. To conclude the event, the committee members were given a chance to interact with Reyes as well with all federal, state and municipal government and private companies in a casual formatted social activity.

“This is all about building relationships between our committee members and employers” said Jose Rivera, Puerto Rico ESGR State Chair. The committee members, 12 in attendance, are getting up-to-date information regarding how the ESGR functions on a state and national level, as well as lessons learned and what works and what doesn’t.

The award ceremony highlights included an evening dinner and awards presentation were several federal, state, municipal and private were recognized for their commitment with the Guard and Reserve. JETBLUE receive the Extraordinary Employer Support Award, Above & Beyond Award, and Seven Seals Awards. As well, committee members received awards for their work within the committee. These awards included the prestigious Seven Seals and certificates of appreciation.

ESGR seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States. ESGR facilitates and promotes a cooperative culture of employer support for National Guard and Reserve service by developing and advocating mutually beneficial initiatives, recognizing outstanding employer support, increasing awareness of applicable laws and policies, resolving potential conflicts between employers and their service members, and acting as the employers’ principal advocate within the Department of Defense. Paramount to ESGR's mission is encouraging employment of Guardsmen and Reservists who bring integrity, global perspective and proven leadership to the civilian workforce.
