WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. – Amy Mercer, who recently celebrated her 25th anniversary as Executive Director of the Florida Police Chiefs Association (FPCA), received a surprise honor recently during the opening ceremony of FPCA’s Summer Conference at The Saddlebrook Resort.

Over 200 Chiefs of Police and command staff from state, county and local law enforcement agencies throughout Florida attended the ceremony. ESGR State Chair James Dicks and Ombudsman Michael Mills, a Life Member of FPCA, were on hand for a ceremonial signing of ESGR Statements of Support by FPCA’s Executive Board, representing 400+ member law enforcement agencies from throughout Florida.

Thanks to Mercer’s leadership, ESGR and the FPCA have enjoyed a close and positive relationship for over 15 years, mostly by revisiting the Statement of Support program every few years. With FPCA’s member agencies as a major employer of National Guard and Reserves in Florida, awareness of ESGR and its mission is critical. An ardent patriot and unwavering supporter of all military, Amy has never hesitated to approve requests from ESGR to engage and inform FPCA members.

At the conclusion of the ceremonial signing, ESGR’s Mills and Dicks surprised Executive Director Mercer by calling her to the podium to receive ESGR’s prestigious Seven Seals Award, the most broad and inclusive recognition given by ESGR at the discretion of the State Chair or ESGR leadership.

The award was presented To Ms. Mercer in recognition of significant individual and organizational achievement, initiative and dedication that promotes the ESGR mission, to include the efforts of more than 4,500 volunteers who carry out ESGR’s mission across the nation daily.

Upon accepting the award, Executive Director’s Mercer’s comments were humble and professional as she graciously suggested that ESGR and its volunteers are worthy of recognition.

ESGR is a Department of Defense program that seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States.
