MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Major Alfredo Escanio, of Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), was presented with an ESGR Patriot Award at Coast Guard Base Miami Beach recently. Major Escanio was at the base to present a plaque of appreciation during a change of command ceremony for the Coast Guard Station and had no idea he would be surprised with an award after being nominated by FWC’s Willie Almagro, a U.S. Coast Guard Reserve Marine Enforcement Specialist.

Noting that the duties of FWC officers and Coast Guard Marine Enforcement Reservists are both in high demand during peak boating weekends in South Florida, Almagro cited Major Escanio’s commitment to recruiting, hiring and respecting Reserve Component members. On a personal and professional level, he supports employees in their FWC career while simultaneously encouraging their dedication in their military duties. Major Escanio is recognized for his good relationship with the Coast Guard. Sector Miami CMDR Burdian was on hand to congratulate him for receiving the award.

The Patriot Award is the first in a series of Awards by ESGR presented to an individual supervisor at a National Guard or Reserve member’s civilian workplace. An employee serving in the National Guard or Reserve, or the spouse of a Guard or Reserve member, may nominate individual supervisors and bosses for support provided directly to the nominating Service member and his or her family.
