ESGR in the News

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Pennsylvania Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an office of the Department of Defense, announced that North-Central area volunteers attended the Pennsylvania Society of Human Resource Management (PA-SHRM) annual meeting at the Penn State Hotel and Conference Center. In attendance were approximately 350 Human Resource personnel representing companies throughout Pennsylvania.

This year marks the eight time that ESGR has been invited to participate in the annual fall PA-SHRM conference. PA ESGR’s participation was as an exhibitor and the North-Central Area team appreciates the opportunity to present information about ESGR’s missions, support of our nation’s Reserve forces, and support provided to employers.

Participating in the two-day conference was the Area Chairs Terry Curran and William Burkhard. In addition to providing literature, ESGR team members answered conference attendee questions. The attendees represented large and small companies plus non-profit organizations from across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Conference attendees were very receptive of the information presented and showed their support for individuals serving in the National Guard and Reserves by signing 25 Statements of Support.

ESGR, a Department of Defense office, seeks to foster a culture in which all employers support and value the employment and military service of members of the National Guard and Reserve in the United States. ESGR facilitates and promotes a cooperative culture of employer support for National Guard and Reserve service by developing and advocating mutually beneficial initiatives, recognizing outstanding employer support, increasing awareness of applicable laws and policies, resolving potential conflicts between employers and their service members, and acting as the employers’ principal advocate within DoD. Paramount to ESGR's mission is encouraging employment of Guardsmen and Reservists who bring integrity, global perspective and proven leadership to the civilian workforce.
