MIAMI – American Airlines Flight Services Manager Yvette Roig received the Department of Defense Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Patriot Award during a presentation at Miami International Airport March 8.
U.S. Army Reserve Staff Sgt. Jose Velazquez, who is a flight attendant with American Airlines, nominated Roig for the award. Velazquez is currently assigned to the 724th Military Police Battalion in Fort Lauderdale.
In his nomination, Velazquez cited Roig’s consistent support for over 10 years, including during training and deployments. “Having family in the military, Yvette understands the toll of military service combined with work and family. She diligently works to iron out schedule conflicts, caring enough to check on my family’s well-being,” said Velazquez.
Florida ESGR volunteer Mike Mills presented the award to Roig after receiving the nomination from Velazquez. The Patriot Award is the first in a series of ESGR awards presented to an individual supervisor at a National Guard or Reserve member’s civilian workplace. An employee serving in the National Guard or Reserve, or the spouse of a Guard or Reserve member, may nominate individual supervisors and bosses. The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support warrior citizens through a wide range of measures.
