ST. PAUL, Minn. – Army National Guard Lt. Col. Gary Diamond presented the DoD Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve’s (ESGR) Patriot Award to his supervisor, Woodbury High School Principal Sarah Sorenson-Wager.

The award was given Sept. 9 at the Joint Force Headquarters. The award was presented in recognition of Principal Sorenson-Wagner’s support of Diamond's service to the Minnesota National Guard. Diamond was very appreciative of this support and assistance from many within the Woodbury High School and wishes he could have also recognized many others.

Over the past ten years he found a supportive culture that was flexible and accommodating and he never felt stressed or worried, even with short notice, for their support went above and beyond. The presentation was part of Diamond's retirement celebration which was attended by many members of the military of all ranks along with many family members. He was honored for his many years of service and accomplishments but in the middle of this celebration he took the time to honor not only the military and his family but those many others that supported him, as he stated, you don’t take this journey alone, and he presented the Department of Defense’s Patriot Award in recognition of this support. 

Also present was Everett Doolittle an ESGR Ombudsman and Minnesota Committee member.  ESGR is a Department of Defense office that develops and promotes supportive work environments for service members in the National Guard and Reserve through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities that increase awareness of applicable laws. ESGR also provides assistance in resolving conflicts between Service members and their employers. This year, ESGR celebrates 51 years of excellence in support of the Reserve Components and their civilian employers.
