HAVRE, Mont. – Lael Barnett of Shine Electric was awarded the Department of Defense Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Patriot Award at an employer outreach event in Havre. The award nomination was made by Montana Army National Guard 1-189th General Aviation Support Battalion (1-189th GSAB) Chief Warrant Officer 2 Matthew Emge. The award was given in recognition of his employer’s extraordinary support of his military obligations. The presentation was made by Montana ESGR State Chair Brad Livingston and Emge during an employer helicopter or boss lift flight as it is called. Emge was the pilot for his employer’s flight.

The Patriot Award was developed by Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), an office of the Department of Defense, to publicly recognize civilian employers who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to an employee who has a spouse serving in the Guard or Reserve. Employer support is key to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve.

For 50 years ESGR has worked to develop a culture in which all employer support and value the employment and military service of members of the United States National Guard and Reserve. For more information about ESGR outreach programs visit www.ESGR.mil.

The Award nomination reads, “ While living in Havre my employer has sacrificed the company’s time in order to allow me to attend college and MSUN and travel to Helena as a National Guard pilot which demands 3 to 6 trips per month. They also are on top of submitting my monthly hour reports in order to keep my GI Bill going. My employer is also more than understanding when I need additional time off for my family during hard times on top of my college and Guard work schedule. My employer has also advised me to remain in the National Guard and stick it out for retirement.”

Thank you and congratulations Lael Barnett of Shine Electric for being a supportive civilian employer of our country’s service members. You provide a valuable service to our country by hiring Guard and Reserve members.
